It all started on a homework night. π
And with a dad who wanted to see his daughter do her best, without fights or nagging.
Our story
It was always the same scene: notebook open, eyes glazed over, and the question every parent knows: "Dad, do I really have to learn this?"
I wanted my daughter to do better in school. But pushing harder only made studying feel heavier. So I flipped the question. Instead of "how do I get her to study?", I started asking: "how do I get her to want to study?"
The answer showed up in an unexpected form: a little monster.
He isn't perfect, and that's exactly why kids love him. He might be furry, floppy-eared, buck-toothed or clumsy. Every kid sees themselves in him and feels like they belong, just as they are. And he's counting on them.
When your kid studies, the little monster grows. He earns prizes, gear and vacation trips. When they get an answer right, he celebrates. And like in every good story, there are villains along the way: Preguição, who keeps whispering βdo it later,β and Chatonildo, who tries to take the fun out of learning.
With every challenge they beat, kids discover something no lecture can teach: they've got this. They keep beating their personal best, building confidence and believing in themselves.
At home, studying stopped being a chore and turned into an adventure. It worked so well that we decided to open Monster Nerd to other families.
Mission
Vision
A world where learning something new feels like winning a prize. Kids driven by curiosity, who enjoy knowing more and value every new thing they learn.
Our values
What we believe
- Consistency and enjoyment matter more than talent. Every kid can do it. What makes the difference is practicing with joy, every day.
- Every mistake in practice gets you closer to nailing it on the test. That's why, in Monster Nerd, a mistake becomes a mission, never a punishment.
- Short goals, always celebrated. Small wins, one after another, add up to big results.
- The right amount of study time. Not too much, not too little: just enough to learn, with time left over to play.
How we think about learning
Behind the fun are techniques recognized by learning research:
- Quiz to remember: answering questions makes things stick way better than rereading.
- Spaced practice: a little bit each day until the test.
- Learn by teaching: the child explains the lesson to the little monster.
- Rewarding effort: a finished study week unlocks the little monster's vacation.
Who makes it
Monster Nerd is made by an engineer and devoted dad who, like every parent, wants the best for his daughter and wants to see her go as far as her potential will take her.
It's the same wish every parent and educator shares: to bring out the best in every child, in every student. Every new feature in the app is tested first by the people who know the subject best: the kids themselves. Teachers and educators who'd like to contribute are more than welcome.
